If this season’s square-toed ballet flats and romantic, flowing dresses are any indication, the worlds of ballet and fashion are colliding.
Ballet Arizona Artistic Director Ib Andersen merges couture and classical ballet in a new piece titled Symphonie Classique, part of the “Modern Masters” showcase the dance company is presenting through Sunday, March 27 at the Orpheum Theatre. Tony Award–winning designer Martin Pakledinaz created “couture” tutus for Andersen’s ballet that cost twice as much as the average dance skirt.
The company will also revisit Christopher Wheeldon’s Polyphonia, which premiered in Phoenix in 2009, and present a film-inspired dance created by Alejandro Cerrudo.
