Rich Orloff is perhaps the nation’s best unknown playwright – or at least, the most prolific one. He’s authored about a dozen one-acts and over sixty short plays that have been performed across the nation and beyond. “I think I’ve finally reached the highest level of obscurity,” quips Orloff. “My work has had over 800 productions on six of the seven continents (and a staged reading in Antarctica).”
Three of Orloff’s pieces will be performed by Class 6 Theatre in a show titled It’s Nothing… Serious at Herberger Theater Center through June 2. As the name implies, this Lunch Time Theater performance won’t be made up of angsty dramatic pieces. The three humorous shorts included are set in the womb, an existential divorce court and the Garden of Eden, respectively. “Part of the fun of writing short comedies is getting a crazy idea and putting a fun spin on it — and then ending it before the idea overstays its welcome,” says Orloff.
