The role of footwear is an oft-debated topic amongst running nuts. Some joggers swear by ol’ fashioned tennies, while others believe those creepy-looking toe shoes are the way to go.

According to the cats at RunBare, mankind is meant to bomb around sans shoes, much like cavemen did back in the dawn of civilization. It’s worked out well for Kenyan athletes like Samuel Wanjiru and Pamela Jelimo, both of whom have been running barefoot since childhood and took home gold medals at the 2008 Olympics.

RunBare will present a free Barefoot Run Clinic on the merits of minimalist footwear and shoeless running starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at REI Phoenix, 12634 North Paradise Village Parkway.

Tue., June 14, 6:30 p.m., 2011
