You can’t pick a bad day to go to a museum, and as temperatures continue their summer rise, the option of seeing great artwork in a cool place only becomes more appealing.
On Friday, May 18, a few of our own museums will celebrate International Museum Day, aimed to raise public awareness of the role museums play in our neighborhoods and communities — and to reel in visitors with discounts and special events.
On our must-see list: The Desert Caballeros Western Museum (free admission and the opening of photographer Scott Baxter’s “100 Years / 100 Ranchers” exhibition); The Hasbrouck Insect Collection at Arizona State University (open house and a look at more than 700,000 specimens); Arizona Museum of Natural History (free admission and a 35th birthday bash for the museum); and The Phoenix Airport Museum (because nothing beats a free, self-guided tour that’s open to the public 24/7).
