The Phoenix Mercury haven’t been the best team in the WNBA so far this season, but they’ve certainly been playing Phoenix’s favorite brand of basketball. Through the first half of the season the Mercury were both the league’s highest-scoring team and the league’s most scored-on team. The result: enough scoring to make the Steve Nash-era Suns proud and a mediocre record to go with it.
It’s unclear whether the Mercury will be able to put their defensive ills behind them — a lot depends on the ailing left knee of center Brittney Griner — but they’re sure to be one of the most fun WNBA teams to watch.
The Mercury will host the Tulsa Shock at US Airways Center, 201 East Jefferson Street, on Sunday, August 11. The woeful Shock have been almost as bad on D as the Mercury, so expect to see plenty of scoring. The game tips off at 6 p.m. Tickets start at $15. Visit www.ticketmaster.com or call 602-252-9622.
