We won’t judge you if you can’t locate Burundi on a map. The landlocked eastern African country isn’t exactly a top tourist destination. If you’re adventurous though, you might be interested to know that The Welcome To America Project is teaming up with Scottsdale chef Josh Hebert to bring a taste of Burundian life to the Valley of the Sun.
The nonprofit organization’s Burundian Cultural Dinner will offer diners cultural cuisine as well as a musical experience, thanks to the world-famous Burundian drumming group Komezakorenga. The family-friendly event will incorporate fashion, stories, dancing, and more.
Travel vicariously by way of the dining event in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church’s Gangsei Hall, 3641 North 56th Street, at 6 p.m. Sunday, August 18. The event costs $15 for children ages 6 to 8 and students. Adults pay $35 each. For more information visit www.wtap.org/events or call 602-490-0088.
