When it comes to the chicken and the egg, it’s not about who goes first — it’s about who goes in the middle. The Valley Permaculture Alliance’s Tour de Coops and Sustainability Festival is a showcase of the some of the most sustainable homes in Phoenix, offering everything from homegrown produce and backyard livestock to custom-made coops.
This self-guided tour of DIY living will give visitors a chance to meet urban farmers as well as learn the basics and benefits of raising chickens in a modern environment. In addition to the tour, there will be free sustainability classes, chicken dance and coop design contests, food trucks, live music, raffles, and more.
The Tour de Coops returns Saturday, November 16. The tour runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and begins at PHX Renews, at the corner of North Central Avenue and West Indian School Road. Tickets start at $15 and can be purchased online at http://tourdecoops.vpaaz.org.
