Short films are one of the best media for discovering budding creative types. With budgets significantly smaller than your average summer tentpole, filmmakers can express themselves without being beholden to high-priced superstars and Hollywood execs. And, ideally, viewers get just enough time with films to stay entertained and become fans.
For a look at selections of short films both locally and internationally made, head to Filmstock. In addition to shorts shot in the Four Corners states, the festival screens works produced during the iFest Challenge, which dared directors to create movies on their phones.
The film fest opens at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 5, at Pollack Tempe Cinemas, 1825 East Elliot Road. Screenings continue nightly through Saturday, December 7, and are blocked into segments based on their genres: drama, comedy, et cetera. Tickets are $10 per screening, $15 for a flex pass, and $35 for an all-access pass. See www.filmstockfilmfestival.com.
