Ever watched a World War II movie that includes a wild dance scene with insanely fast steps, lots of swinging about, and women flying around their partners? That’s the Lindy Hop, which gained popularity in the late 1930s and proved a welcome outlet for soldiers on leave. And it’s one dance step that never went out of style (where’s disco now, huh?), so best get into the swing of things – literally — as the Arizona Lindy Hop Society presents the Desert City Swing dance party. Dig out those vintage duds and get all dolled up for Phoenix’s most stylish dance event, perfectly at home at the Arizona Grand. Lessons are available before the DJs crank out the big band sounds of yesteryear.
Start swinging 6 p.m. Friday, September 5 ,at the Arizona Grand Hotel, 8000 South Arizona Grand Parkway. Tickets are $10 per class. Visit www.azlindy.com/events.
Fri., Sept. 5, 6-8 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 6, 7-9 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 7, 7-9 p.m., 2014
