Dying in 2003 at the relatively young age of 34 from seemingly self-inflicted stab wounds to the heart (a coroner ruled the cause of death as undetermined rather than suicide), singer-songwriter Elliot Smith left behind grieving fans, a treasure trove of unrealeased songs, and more questions than answers. In Heaven Adores You, documentarian Nickolas Rossi puts together the puzzle of who Smith was through the lens of the major cities he lived in throughout his music career — Portland, New York, and Los Angeles — and with the help of friends and collaborators like Joana Bolme, Jon Brion, and Rob Schnapf.
Heaven Adores You screens Thursday, January 29, at FilmBar, 815 North Second Avenue, starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $9. Visit www.thefilmbarphx.com to purchase advance tickets & for more info.
