A little more than six months ago, the grand opening of an independently owned neighborhood grocery called Luci’s Healthy Marketplace stirred up excitement in the neighborhood around 16th Street and Bethany Home.
But that was nothing compared to the shocking news that came in July, when Richardson’s, the legendary restaurant in the same building as Luci’s, was destroyed by a fire. Although Luci’s wasn’t damaged as badly, it was still shuttered for major repairs.
Last Thursday, the market finally reopened. Owner Luci Schnitzer says, “We had an opportunity to step back and really reevaluate our business.”
There are more handpicked products, and fewer supplements and personal care goods. In the cafe area, there’s more seating, and a new executive chef, Eric Guerin, will be doing theme nights and cooking classes (a schedule will soon be added to the website). Beginning in November, Luci’s will roll out a new menu of made-to-order sandwiches, soups, and wraps.
