Think you could cook your way through Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking without flattening a soufflé, burning a few roasts and tossing enough disastrous dishes to feed a small country? Julie Powell, popular blogger and author of Julie & Julia (later made into the film starring Oscar-winner Meryl Streep and Amy Adams), spent a year showing us what really happens when the average person tackles the Bible of French cooking.
Powell will make a special appearance tonight for a four-course dinner with wine pairings at Le Cordon Bleu in Scottsdale, with proceeds benefiting Sedona’s Camp Soaring Eagle. In addition to dinner, the evening will include a culinary-themed silent auction and a Q&A session with Powell.
If you’re worried that one of the culinatrix’s cooking disasters might end up on your table, don’t be. The students of Le Cordon Bleu are preparing tonight’s dinner, which includes a featured recipe from Child’s French cooking manual. Considering Powell’s newest hobby-slash-obsession is butchering, we’re hoping the Le Cordon Bleu students also pay homage with a few nice, meaty carcasses (piglet, anyone? how about venison?).
