Oh, the tongues of gossip are a-waggin’ on this one folks: Spasso, the pizza and mozzarella bar in the Town & Country plaza on East Camelback Road in Central Phoenix recently closed, and rumor has it that a certain well-known Valley pizza master (who’s also opening a restaurant in London with Jamie Oliver and has his own line of canned organic tomatoes) will be opening up a trattoria in its stead — with a certain ex-Prado chef he hired last year at the helm.
A leasing agent at Town & Country said (laughing, I might add) that she was not at liberty to say who was leasing the new space, but that it will be an Italian eatery with a targeted opening date prior to December 1st.
For those that might remember, the Town & Country Shopping Center was the prior home of the Valley pizza legend’s famous restaurant before it ultimately landed at 623 East Adams Street in Heritage Square.
As of the time of this post, I am still waiting to hear back from the Valley pizza master, but if the rumor turns out to be true, most of the Valley, if not the state of Arizona — heck, the entire planet — will be anticipating this new restaurant’s debut.
