For some reason, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has decided to put his official opinion on the books about pizza, and it isn’t sitting well with folks in the Windy City. The conservative judge apparently carries both his New York ties and strict views over to pizza and decided that deep dish shouldn’t be considered pizza. We’re not sure he’s ever been to Gino’s, Giordano’s, or Lou Malnati’s in Chicago, which arguably serve the best deep dish pies anywhere, but his heated comments on the topic of pan pizza are definitely raising eyebrows.

According to Time, Scalia said Friday that deep dish “shouldn’t be called pizza,” while conceding that “it’s very tasty, but it’s not pizza.” This comes years after the historic blow that deep dish took in politics when President Barack Obama, an ex-Illinoisan, claimed his favorite Chicago pizza was a joint that serves up thin crust.
We think the prominent men should keep their opinions off our delicious slices of thick and saucy deep dish and focus on their jobs. Let us handle the pizza reviews.
