Will the parade of limited-time sweet treats from Sonic ever stop? Answer: Never. They are like time, or innovation, or motocross speedway action.

First out the gate in 2011 is the Red Velvet Cheesecake Blast, made with red velvet cake batter ice cream, blended with cheesecake pieces, and finished with whipped topping and then, yes, more cheesecake pieces.

True love or a regrettable frozen-treat tryst? Let’s take a taste and find out.

The Pros: Crazy-delicious and more than slightly addictive, the Red Velvet Cheesecake Blast from Sonic is another winner, the last one being the Holiday Spiced Sugar Cookie Blast. The taste of the red velvet cake batter ice cream was far more accurate than what I expected, with the soft cheesecake pieces paying a pleasing textural compliment to this unique frozen treat.

The Cons: No surprise here, the Red Velvet Cheesecake Blast is not for the diet-minded. The regular size contains 850 calories and 30 grams of saturated fat. The large? You don’t want to know.

Would Fry Girl Order it Again? Yes, but my splurge would be shared with a trusted friend. One with the same-sized spoon and who made sure the bites were distributed evenly.

What about you, Sonic Blasters? Anyone else tried the Velvet Cheesecake Blast? What did you think?
