Here’s a real head-scratcher. The seemingly successful Soma Cafe, at Tatum and Shea, unexpectedly closed its doors over the weekend.
According to one of my colleagues (who was a Soma regular to the point that it was like his second office), there was a note on the door yesterday blaming investor panic about capital gains taxes that were coming due, and the problems faced by small business owners.
When Soma Express, the newer, smaller fast-casual spot on Camelback closed not long ago, I wasn’t completely surprised — it was more inconspicuous in that little strip, and the parking lot was tiny. But this, I still don’t get. The place was always busy, and the menu was solid — tasty, reasonably priced, and actually good for you.
