Phoenix definitely has a sweet tooth.
Between the talented pastry chefs at the Valley’s best resorts and restaurants, the indie bakers, and the pastry wizards whipping up confections for myriad local cafes, it seems like there’s always news of something sugary and clever.
The latest to come along is Sugar Sugar Cake Studio, the creation of Ted Scutti, who is “President and Sugar Artist.”
Indeed, to look at his still-under-construction website — complete with a darling logo designed by former New Times-er Jason Hill — Scutti has a way with edible sculptures.
When news happens, Phoenix New Times is there —
Your support strengthens our coverage.
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If New Times matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
The “sugar artist” has a gallery of fancy cookies, whimsical cakes covered in colorful fondant shapes, towers laden with cupcakes, and (my favorite) cake pops.
Not sure which I like more — the cake pops that resemble darling little mannequins in evening gowns, or the ones that look like bloodshot eyeballs. Cute and creepy both work for me.
