After a year of teasing us with his promise to open a tapas restaurant, Cin-Cin Bistro chef-owner Joseph Gutierrez finally unveiled Tapas Papa Frita at Scottsdale’s SouthBridge last night.
Their menu of Basque-influenced Spanish food is pretty impressive, with dozens of small plates including Gambas al Pil-Pil (shrimp in white wine sauce), fried calamari in club soda batter, Moroccan lamb brochette and Champiñones al Jerez, or sherry-braised mushrooms.

Full entrees such as beer-marinated pork loin and rabbit in tomato sauce are also offered, in addition to a handful of paella dishes and sinful desserts like the chocolate-stuffed apple with Chantilly-cider cream we’re already eyeing.
Since opening in 2007, SouthBridge has played a game of culinary musical chairs, with a handful of restaurants moving in and out in the blink of an eye — including Gutierrez’s recent ventures Acua and Tutto, the latter of which was replaced by Marcellino Ristorante earlier this year. Hopefully, Tapas Papa Frita will have better staying power.
Tapas Papa Frita is open 5 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
