In celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Apple App store, the company is giving away five games and five apps for a limited time. The list of popular apps available right now at no cost includes a download of the iPhone or iPad app for Mark Bittman’s famous kitchen primer, How To Cook Everything.
So stop Latergram-ing your lunch, and go download it. Now.

Bittman’s book is somewhat of a kitchen staple and includes thousands of recipes with easy-to-follow instructions. If you’ve got questions about how to boil water, it has answers. The more kitchen savvy might want to know about pork chops. This book has eight different ways to prepare ’em. The app, which can be viewed on either an iPhone or iPad, would normally cost $10 — while a hardcopy of the book will set you back two or three times that much.
Other popular apps available for free right now include the games Infinity Blade II, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP, Where’s My Water?, Badland and Tiny Wings, as well as the photo app Over, Traktor DJ and Barefoot World Atlas.
The App Store doesn’t say how long the downloads will be available for free but does offer an informational timeline of the App Store’s important milestones. Happy Birthday, App Store.
