Because not everyone wants to be surrounded by laptops when they’re enjoying their coffee, the newly-opened Toast in central Phoenix has a strict no-computers policy.
The “breakfast boutique,” owned by Gina Madrid and Vine Saccento, is right next door to the recently closed Drip Coffee Lounge at 2327 N. 7th St. Madrid and Saccento, who owned Drip, say they wanted to scale down the venue, make it classier and focus on creating a relaxing environment, as well as on producing quality food made with only local ingredients.
“It’s basically to bring in people that want to relax and enjoy themselves, as opposed to the fast-paced Starbucks, Lux crowd, and we’re offering something that no one else does in this town,” Saccento says.
The spot serves both breakfast and lunch in a very intimate setting–there’s only room for about 15 people inside at tables and at the bar and 8 on the patio. The menu includes, obviously, a selection of toasts with a variety of toppings, as well as sandwiches and pastries.
