On Friday, Tempe Music Festival announced a pretty uninspired lineup (Kid Rock, Three Doors Down) for April 3 and 4 at Tempe Beach Park. It was better than I was expecting (ahem, nothing) but it certainly didn’t pack the punch of last year’s event, headlined by Fergie and My Chemical Romance.
Turns out, festival season has been saved by McDowell Mountain Music Festival, which has made a major move — and is position itself to be the spring music festival in Arizona — with a much, much hipper lineup, led by The Flaming Lips. Since last year’s MMMF featured Gov’t Mule and The Wailers, it’s pleasantly stunning to see “The Thinking Man’s Radiohead” headlining this year. Full lineup on the jump.
