Jason Polan is on an impossible mission; he’s attempting to draw every person in New York.
His portraits are quick, line doodles. They usually take him about two minutes, and they’re updated “as quickly as possible” to his blog, Every Person in New York.
“It is possible that I will draw you without you knowing it,” he writes. “I draw in subway stations and museums and restaurants and on street corners. I try not to be in the way when I am drawing or be too noticeable.”
Polan’s a New York-based painter, illustrator, and member of the 53rd Street Biological Society and Taco Bell Drawing Club.

In 2008, Polan finished The Drawing Project, in which he drew something new every day and then mailed the image to the first person to email him and request it.
No word on when he’ll finish (or run out of paper for) Every Person in New York, but he says to increase your potential of being drawn, you can drop him a note with a specific time and location where you will be standing, and with enough notice, he’ll attempt to find you for a quick sketch.
“When the project is completed we will all have a get together,” he writes.
