Looking for something to do this weekend? “Night Owl” is a quick guide to special nights at bars and clubs around town. We’ll give you a few hints re: cover, dress code, music and atmosphere. Fridays and Saturdays mark Karaoke with Steve at Max and Ted’s 480 Neighborhood Bar. Based on its name, Karaoke with Steve at Max and Ted’s 480 Neighborhood Bar sounds like three random dudes getting together in Chandler every Friday and Saturday night and subjecting themselves to each other’s singing voices. A little scary.
The Place: 480 N. Arizona Ave., Chandler
The People: Colorful Regulars. This is definitely a neighborhood bar. An older gentleman who actually accompanied himself on harmonica told us that he’d been coming to Max and Ted’s for over 15 years.
In reality the evening includes some killer drink specials, quite a bit of fun and a decent crowd comprised of more than just Steve, Max and Ted.
Check out a slideshow of the latest Karaoke with Steve here and our impressions after the jump…
The Time: Every Friday and Saturday, 9 p.m. – 1 a.m.
The Cover: Zero.
What we loved: The thick and diverse 73 page songbook, which covered all the classics but also included absurdities such as a dozen 98 degrees songs and obscurities such as three Aqua songs.
What we didn’t love: The parking situation. If you miss the turn for the lot, which is easy to do as it is not directly next to the bar, the second closest parking lot belongs to a sketchy old mortuary.
Are we going back? Next time we’re in Chandler.
