Arizona’s street cred in the national arts and culture scene has been seriously on the rise this month — what with downtown’s Lost Leaf being named one of the best art bars in America, Phoenix being named one of the best Midcentury Modern metros, and Sedona getting featured in Smithsonian Magazine’s best small towns to visit in 2014.

Now, it seems that reputation is only getting better, as CNN recently released its list of the “Best Places to Experience Native American Culture.”

The article, which went up Tuesday, April 16, compiled a national list of museums, centers, and festivals that specialize in Native American culture.

Not surprisingly, the list featured places like the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C., the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, New Mexico, a good portion of the state of Oklahoma, and Phoenix, Arizona.

Although the list of Native American culture events and venues wasn’t ranked, Phoenix received multiple accolades thanks to the Heard Museum’s 11 galleries, six to eight yearly exhibitions, and the annual Indian Fair and Market, which is set to return for its 57th year on March 7 and 8 in 2015.

Also credited for Phoenix’s rich native arts and culture scene was the Pueblo Grande Museum and Archeological Park with its prehistoric Hohokam archaeological village and December Indian Market.
