On the heels of Nostra Style House leaving Sixth Street for Roosevelt, news has come that Butter Toast Boutique will shutter.
The shop, owned by Jasmine Jarrett and Traci Nelson, made a name for itself carrying boho-chic vintage clothing and helped make Sixth Street a shopping destination in Downtown Phoenix.
Jarrett says that she and Nelson have been thinking about closing up shop since October 2012, and with their lease up next month they feel it’s time to move on. “I think both Traci and I are just ready for something new,” she says. “There wasn’t any financial or personal struggle… It is just time.”

Butter Toast will remain open through Friday, February 1. Through January, all vintage items in the store will be half-off. That includes everything from shoes and clothing to wall fixtures and picture frames.
After that, Jarrett says they’ll liquidate remaining stock to other vintage dealers and close the boutique’s Etsy outpost, too.
While Nelson and Jarrett aren’t sure of what they’ll pursue next, Jarrett says they could very well embark on another fashionable endeavor.
“After we give ourselves a moment to breathe and everything is all wrapped up with Butter Toast, then we will have the space to begin plotting,” she says. “As of right now there are no plans to start another boutique.”
While Butter Toast closing is a major loss for Phoenix shoppers, it looks like some new establishments are already in the works for the bungalow. Though nothing is solidified yet, Annie Boomer Vintage owner Andrea Engelsberg says she’s considering moving into Butter Toast’s space (she previously operated out of Nostra’s back room).
Rumor has it a home goods emporium will take up residency at Nostra’s former location. We’ll keep you posted.
