Old West junkies are going to love this: The rehab of the Pioneer Living History Museum and Village, which gives it up to the days of the Arizona Territory, has been completed.
Since 1969, the museum, which includes old-school homes and cabins, has acted as an ode to pre-statehood Arizona. However, the complex, located north of Carefree Highway at 3901 West Pioneer Road, needed a serious facelift, but there wasn’t any money since the joint was tied up in a state-land trust.
On July 15, the City of Phoenix, with the help of voter-approved bond money, finalized the purchase of the land and started leasing the property to the museum. Shortly thereafter, the museum was shut down and the epic cleaning began.
An open-to-the-public, grand-reopening shindig takes place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. For more information, go to www.pioneeraz.org.
