Looking for something to do this week? “Night Owl” is a quick guide to special nights at bars and clubs around town. We’ll give you a few hints re: cover, dress code, music and atmosphere. Every third Saturday marks Shadowplay at Rips in Phoenix. Shadowplay is an ’80s dance night with a bit of an edge. There are no leg warmers or Members Only jackets to be found here, just countless drink specials and the moody dance music of the 1980s.
Every third Saturday this dive-iest of dive bars, known as Rips Ales & Cocktails, lets DJ Manchester spin all of his post-punk, britpop and new wave favorites.

What we didn’t love: The light show on the dance floor needs more than a little work. There was a slideshow of 80s album covers that served primarily as a continuous technical difficulty.
Are we going back? You can’t tear us apart from Shadowplay.
