Some say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

If that’s the case, the state legislature is officially insane.

On Thursday, after seven painstaking weeks of budget negotiations, the legislature sent Governor Jan Brewer a budget plan that is nearly identical to the one she vetoed in July.

Brewer said she vetoed the budget because it “devastated schools, human services and public safety.” She then called a special session, and told legislators to get back to work.

Some senators interpreted “work” to mean “go on vacation.” Yes, Senators Gorman, and Gray, we are referring to you.

Brewer told the legislature that the new plan needed to have a 1-cent sales tax increase included in order for her to sign it.

The new plan has no such increase.

Whether or not the Governor has the cojones to veto the bill again and send the legislature back to work yet again, is still up in the air.

Um, didn’t she already “take action” on this plan when she sacked it in July? What a difference two months of bickering makes.
