After a U.S. District Court judge stripped key provisions out of Arizona’s SB1070 law, Governor Jan Brewer appealed.
Like the district court, the Ninth Circuit Court found unconstitutional the parts of the law that allowed police officers to hassle suspected illegal immigrants and made it a state crime for immigrants to leave home without their ID.
Now Brewer’s appealing again, this time to the U.S. Supreme Court. Of course, you never doubted her commitment to the law that solidified Arizona’s reputation as a bigoted backwater.
Many would see a loss at the Supreme Court as a win, and vice-versa. Many others, including those in states that seek to pass similar laws, are hoping Arizona’s law is upheld. The Supreme Court Justices may choose to ignore the case, letting the Ninth’s ruling stand.
