Today is probably not the greatest day to be a public relations person for Banner Thunderbird Medical Center.

This morning a complaint was filed about a nurse defecating in an operating room, and now there are reports that a newborn was found dead in one of the hospital’s bathrooms.

Glendale police report that on Saturday morning hospital staff found the newborn on the floor in the restroom.

Glendale police spokesman Sergeant Jim Cunningham says hospital staff tried to revive the baby but were unsuccessful, at which point they called the cops.

Cunningham says the baby belonged to a teenage girl who had come to the hospital earlier in the day looking for medical help.

The girl has been cooperative, Cunningham says, and  police are so far investigating the discovery as an unintended death.

Cunningham didn’t rule out criminal charges, saying police are waiting on the results of an autopsy.
