Greg Stanton, a leading candidate for Phoenix mayor, pulled in more campaign contributions in the past five months than his political challengers.

A first glance at campaign finance reports reveals  that he raised more than $250,000 between January 1 and May 31. During the same period, former Councilwoman Peggy Neely raised about $167,000, Councilman Claude Mattox raised about $150,000 and candidate Wes Gullett pulled in about $116,000.

Gullett’s $116K falls short — about $884,000 short — of his $1 million fundraising goal by the August 20 election. He better get cracking.

Perhaps being a former political aide for a U.S. Senator, a former gubernatorial chief of staff and a partner in one of Arizona’s largest lobbying firms just doesn’t pay off as much as people might think.
