The Phoenix Police Department has just confirmed to New Times that one of its officers accidentally shot himself at the department’s police academy this morning.
As the old saying goes, a Phoenix cop “shot himself in the foot.”
(Brief pause for laughter.)
Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes says the officer was holstering his weapon when it went off, hitting him in his upper foot.

Aside from a bruised ego, the officer is expected to be fine.
The accident happened at a training facility, but it should be noted that this was an actual officer that did this — not a trainee.
(We’ll take another quick chuckle break.)
Holmes says the name of the officer and other details aren’t being released until an investigation is complete; when we get more details, we’ll let you know.
