President Barack Obama announced yesterday that he would not release photos of Osama bin Laden’s bullet-riddled corpse to the public, claiming the photos are too graphic and “not in our national security interest.”
We’re no conspiracy theorists, but Obama’s decision to not release the photos is just the latest in a series of bizarre details about the offing of the world’s now-former number-one terrorist.
For starters, Bin Laden was unarmed when he was shot in the head by Navy SEALs on the third floor of his, um, posh suburban Pakistani compound. Seems to us the symbolic leader of the most murderous terrorist organization in the world would be worth more to the United States alive than dead. From all accounts, it seems the SEAL team didn’t do much — if anything — to try to take Bin Laden alive.
Secondly, within 13 hours of his death, his body was dropped into the ocean — “in accordance with Muslim tradition” — guaranteeing that if there were any further questions about his identity, there would be no body available to further prove he’s dead.

And now Obama seems to think the American public — and terrorists sympathetic to Bin Laden — can’t handle looking at a few gory photos of a dead guy.
We don’t doubt he’s dead, but the story just doesn’t add up — and not releasing the photos adds fuel to the fire for those who think details about the mission that killed Bin Laden don’t pass the smell test.
