The giant mud pit that was Tempe Town Lake for the past few months is about to be a lake again.

The city opened the spigot this morning after repairing a rubber barrier that burst in July, allowing about a billion gallons of water to go rushing downstream.

About a billion gallons of water from Roosevelt Lake is flowing downstream to refill the empty lake. The repair is ahead of schedule, which is good news for maniacs, who are planning on competing in the November 21, Iron Man Triathalon, which uses the lake for the swimming portion of the contest.
