Democratic Congressman Raul Grijalva made himself a target for Republicans when he called for a boycott of all things Arizona last year, but he held on to his seat by a much narrower margin than he’s used to. GOPers, it seems, still see him as vulnerable, and now, less than two months after being sworn in for his fifth term, Grijalva already has a Republican opponent for the 2012 election.
Last night, Republican Gabriela Saucedo Mercer announced her candidacy for the Congressional seat currently held by Grijalva
“I am running for office because I know in my heart that I can represent the people in CD 7 better than we have been represented over the last eight years by the incumbent,” Saucedo Mercer says in a statement issued this morning.
Saucedo Mercer was born in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. legally in 1986. As for political experience, Saucedo Mercer has zilch.

A spokesman for the candidate tells New Times Saucedo Mercer has an associates degree in social science from Cochise Community College, and worked for several years at a defense electronics firm.
Her most recent gig was as a stay-at-home mom for her three adult children, one of whom now is a Marine. The staffer describes Saucedo Mercer as a “political activist.”
Sparse resume aside, at least she didn’t encourage people to boycott the state she hopes to represent.
