On October 13, there will be a few painted elephants on Fifth Street in downtown Phoenix.
No need to fret or call Peta; they’re about three-feet tall, temporary (read: papier-mâché), and decorated by a killer group of local creatives.
Aaron Johnson, Hugo Medina, Rebecca Clark, Breeze, JB Snyder, a few tattoo artists from Golden Rule, and Gypsy and Daveed have been painting, spraying, pasting, and customizing each of their elephants, which will hopefully stay on the street through the weekend.

The elephants were created by Dave Bjorn, who co-runs The Lab on Roosevelt with the help of a few friends/conspirators. He says he hopes the installation will bring more attention to the area and serve as a small-scale celebration of (rogue) public art.
