The world’s oldest known fermented fruit-based beverage dates back 9,000 years. Beer is a newer creation, going back only 5,000 years to ancient Egypt, the result of an accidental pairing of grains, wild yeast, and water in a vessel subject to proper climatic conditions. Brewing is somewhat more precise these days, and brewers have little trouble creating high-alcohol ales. Thus, more than 150 potent creations will be on tap during Arizona Beer Week’s annual Arizona Strong Beer Festival.
Sampling starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 14, in Steele Indian School Park, 300 East Indian School Road. General admission tickets, $45, include one four-ounce commemorative tasting mug and 40 two-ounce beer tasting tickets. Designated driver tickets are $10. Food is also available.
