Arty Girl: Civic Space Park Tonight

Hey everybody! It’s the third Friday of the month.

There’s just all kinds of things going on tonight in the local art world. You know you can visit any of the Roosevelt Row and Grand Avenue galleries to check out what you may have missed on First Friday. You can also see the opening of Lisa Sipe’s show at Eye Lounge. Yes, we like to cover the crap out of events here at the Phoenix New Times so now I’ll tell you about what’s happening at the Civic Space Park tonight.

So while you’re downtown for all this good stuff, head over to the Civic Space Park on Central and Van Buren-ish for the dedication of Downtown Park’s Historic A.E. England Building. This is the same spot that houses the new location of Fair Trade Cafe. Other spaces in the building will evenutally host meetings, presentation, banquets, art events and classes. ASU and the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will be in charge of events and happenings here.

The first little shindig they’re throwing together is this dedication ceremony. There will be an inaugural art exhibit of Siri Khandavilli‘s  “For the Love of Money”. Her multi-media works will be on hang alongside an historic exhibit of photos and artwork showcasing Phoenix’s past, present and future. Oh, and there’s a classic car display.

But the party doesn’t stop there, my friends. No way. Bring a blanket for the vast lawn at the Civic Space Park so you can gaze at the glorious Janet Echelman public art piece while vibing the sweet sounds of the Sugar Thieves on the park’s stage (btw, I went to one of these outdoor concerts a while back and, I must say, it makes for a lovely evening).

Head to the Civic Space Park at 444 N. Central Ave. in downtown Phoenix from 6-9:30 p.m. tonight, Friday, October 16th.
