I make no bones about my feelings for the city of Phoenix: I love it.
Sure, we certainly have our problems and while I believe such issues should always be addressed, as soon as the conversation turns to unproductive bashing on my home town, I get seriously T.O.’d. You may as well sling insults about my mother.
So if there’s an art show about Phoenix, I’m interested. And there just happens to be one at ASU, opening tonight.
This show is not an all-out Phoenix love-fest.

“Phoenix Transect” is a photography exhibition featuring images by ASU undergraduate and graduate students in Mark Klett‘s field study course. It’s the product of three years of work in which students of fine art, natural science and social science examined the evolution of the Phoenix metro area and its residents – for better or worse.
This is documentary photography, portraiture and fine art photography mashed together in one show.
The opening reception is tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Northlight Gallery in Matthews Hall (on the southeast corner of Tyler and Forest Malls on the ASU Tempe campus). And you can catch a gallery talk on Monday, November 9th at 7 p.m. Visit art.asu.edu for more information.
