Just in case you haven’t already heard, West Valley Art Museum in Surprise closed earlier this month.

They say it’s temporary. But a Magic 8-ball might say, “Outlook not so good.”

In a letter posted on their website on August 3rd, The Board says they laid off all their staff and have temporarily closed the museum. The letter states, “The Board is working diligently to develop a plan of action and is considering multiple alternatives that will allow us to be back in operation in the near future. Temporary closure of the Museum should be seen as a positive step to stabilize, reorganize, and refocus the future of the Museum.”

It then goes on to say the museum hopes to raise a whopping $150,000 to restructure.

$30,000

Yikes.

I am so sad. WVAM was one of my favorite places to visit in the valley. I’ve blogged and reviewed a number of their shows and I will certainly miss them.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed, but I’m not holding my breath.
