Over recent years our fair city has become a catalyst for free expression. Locals and tourists alike gather to witness creations that feed their hunger for a sense of newness or, if they’re lucky, a third-eye-opening experience.
Phoenix Center for the Arts welcomes cult animator Don Hertzfeldt to help pry that eye un-shut with a showing of It’s Such a Beautiful Day. The feature combines the filmmaker’s short film trilogy about a man named Bill. Each installment is a seamless exploration of life’s tendency to intertwine normalcy, comedy, madness, and serenity all in profound simplicity. Hertzfeldt has dozens of awards for his artistic contributions from film festivals including Sundance, Ann Arbor, and London Animation — among others.
