With rain opening unexpected sinkholes all over Phoenix and former Godfather’s Pizza CEO — and current tea party member — Herman Cain winning Arizona’s presidential straw polls, we wouldn’t blame you for wanting to stick your head in the sand right now.

If you’re going to do so, take a cue from the flightless birds on display at the annual Chandler Ostrich Festival. The event features live music from Paris James and Eddie Money, a sea lion show, and valiant knights jousting on horseback. Of course, the main draw is the ostrich races, where brave jockeys attempt to guide the huge two-toed birds towards the finish line at speeds upwards of 40 miles per hour.
