Christmas carols are cheeseball-a-rific, but not when a young and hip New York City-based composer of Norwegian descent is rearranging the holiday hits for a Grammy Award-winning group.

Beginning Saturday, December 19, the Phoenix Chorale will perform its “Home for the Holidays” program that will feature the group blowing your mind with composer-in-residence Ola Gjeilo’s handcrafted arrangements of traditional tunes. The concert will also showcase PhoCho interpreting contemporary compositions by heavy-hitting modern masters such as Arvo Pärt and Cecilia McDowall (the Sonoran Brass Quintet and an organist will sit in on McDowall’s cantata Christus natus est).

The concert will also include a pre-show chat at 6:30 between KBAQ’s Sterling Beeaff’s and Gjeilo.
