Back in May, Welcome Diner turned from pop-up restaurant to pop-up theater when it hosted the première screening of Arrested Development‘s new season on Netflix. Now the established diner calls to local filmmakers as it hosts its first ever Southern Summer 48-Hour Film Fest.

The film fest is open to any and all interested participants. In order to qualify for the film fest, filmmakers and their teams (team size is not limited) must sign up by August 9 and submit a $50 entry fee, part of which will be applied toward the grand cash prize.
Once the filmmaking teams register on August 9, they will be assigned a genre, a line of dialogue, and a prop that must be incorporated into their film. Each film must be 3 minutes in length and submitted in either DVD or miniDV format. All films are due by 5:30 p.m. on August 11, giving you exactly — you guessed it — 48 hours.

The film fest will screen August 14 at 8:30 p.m.. Films will be judged by representatives from local Garfield businesses and prizes will be awarded, including trophies, cash, and Welcome Diner gift certificates. To find out more, visit the Welcome Diner event page on Facebook.
