The recipe for caramel is mindbogglingly simple, but even the easiest recipes can get botched. The candy can be burned, scorched and ruined if it rises just a few degrees over 250, even though at its foundation, candy caramel is comprised of nothing but sugar, butter, cream and vanilla. Head to Caramelpalooza 2012, hosted by New Times‘ food blog Chow Bella and Smeeks, for a taste of creative caramel crafting.
As its moniker suggests, it’s a rockin’ affair. But instead of seeing rock stars like Perry Farrell, the Valley’s star sugar-workers will show off their talents with unique spins on the confectionary delight. Sweet treat big wigs including Urban Cookies, Churn, Tammie Coe Cakes, Honey Moon Sweets will roll out limited quantities of the melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The tasting starts at 7 p.m. and goes ’til the sugary goodies are depleted.
