Visit the web site of comedian Bill Engvall and you’ll be greeted with a message proclaiming that you’ve come to the right place if you’re looking for squeaky clean standup.
There’s no punch-line to that joke.
The former sitcom star and Blue Collar Comedy Tour participant prides himself on a clean-cut image that helps him connect with an audience that consists largely of rednecks and married couples. Taking the “blue” out of “blue collar” has produced mixed results in Engvall’s career. While it landed him his own sitcom on TBS, the gig lasted just two seasons before being chopped from the airwaves.
