When residents of major metropolitan areas with rich, renowned culture rib inhabitants of burgeoning cities, it’s kind of like elder siblings prodding younger ones because they fail, year after year, to catch up in age.
At least, that’s the case with Phoenix, a relatively young city with an inferiority complex and a nearby big city: Los Angeles. Whether to continue molding this town (baby L.A., anyone?) into a second City of Angels – smog, sprawl, and all – is the topic of the Zócalo Public Square panel discussion Is Phoenix the Next L.A.?
Former CNN anchor and current ASU journalism professor Aaron Brown will moderate the talk, which will feature Phoenix Symphony music director Michael Christie, architect and urban designer Wellington Reiter, ASU’s Desert Initiative director Greg Esser, and ASU College of Public Programs dean Jonathan Koppell.
