While the rest of the country is sipping cider and watching the leaves change color, Arizona’s gearing up for 18 wild days of music, barnyard animals, crazy exhibits, fried Snickers bars, and rides (that make us throw up our fried Snickers bars) at the Arizona State Fair.

Starting Friday, October 15, festivities include sand sculptures, stunt shows, and a life-size dinosaur robot ride along with opening-weekend-only attractions like SpongeBob Squarepants and Air Guard’s “Rise to the Challenge” reality games tour.

At 6 p.m. Saturday, October 16, at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, go ’80s with The B-52s and Morris Day and the Time. Then come back Sunday, October 17, for the Arizona State Fair 5K & Fun Run/Walk and the Police K-9 Competition, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the grandstand arena, where two- and four-legged teams test their crime-fighting tactics.
