One new idea for every day in 2011. We’re talking big, small, local, international, in action, and on the drawing board. Here’s today’s — what’s yours?

For a small chunk of change, Tim Hallinan will send you a hand-drawn postcard from (somewhere) along the road.
The Massachusetts-based artist and landscape designer is setting out on a 3,000-mile journey from Boston to Los Angeles this coming year — and he’s planning on drawing as he goes.
“From Boston to LA I will produce about 120 illustrations, which visually record the gradual progression between the county’s various natural landscapes and ecosystems as well as the transition between rural, suburban and urban places,” he writes.

His course will take him through set points along latitude lines that will mark each of his illustrations (each of the set points will be between 25 and 35 miles apart).
Hallinan writes that most of his drawings will be black pen, as well as a few colored inks and acrylics, on paper, which will ultimately be compiled in a visual diary, of sorts.
To see more of Hallinan’s work visit his website, and to read more about his cross-country adventure, check out his pitch.
