It’s safe to say that Tempe Town Lake hasn’t really lived up to expectations (unless you expected outbreaks of dengue and West Nile viruses). So it’s always nice to see it get some use. The lake will be getting some serious use this Saturday when it serves as the last stop of New Belgium Brewing Co’s Tour De Fat.
The event will kick off with a bike parade around Tempe Town Lake beginning and ending in Tempe Beach Park, 54 West Rio Salado Parkway. The 11 a.m. parade is open to the public; you can also register to participate at 10am if you want to be part of the action.
If parades aren’t your thing, drop in after noon to catch a wide array of entertainment. Featured acts include juggler/contortionist Mike Nery, strong woman Mama Lou, and a yo-yo Show (not a euphemism). On top of that, the event will also feature a dance contest and a “lips of faith” tent where adults can sample all of New Belgium’s brews. Admission is free; more info can be found at www.newbelgium.com.
